Oxnard Fire Department Wins Contest To Get Grant To Try To Reduce Drownings

Posted on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 12:38am

Some beach, or pool users in Ventura County may soon be able to thank Facebook users for saving their life, or a life of a loved one from drowning.

The Oxnard Fire Department is one of the winners of a State Farm Insurance online contest which offered cash prizes for the community problem solving initiatives which received the most votes. The Oxnard Fire Department received more than 16,000 votes for its program proposal to try to reduce drownings, through an educational campaign targeting the ocean, pools, and the harbor area.

State Farm officials will present a $25,000 check to the Fire Department at tonight’s Oxnard City Council meeting.
