New Ventura County Grand Jury Report Says Schools In County Generally Well Prepared For Earthquakes

Posted on Thursday, June 7, 2012 2:27pm

A new Ventura County Grand Jury report says nearly all of the County’s 21 school districts, and 211 schools are prepared for earthquakes, but that a handful need to do more to be ready.

The Grand Jury says it found that all but the Santa Paula Elementary, and Rio Elementary School district were doing required duck and cover earthquake safety drills with faculty, and students on a regular basis.

They noted that almost all of the school districts in the county have recommended disaster kits on their campuses, with three day emergency supplies of food, and water on hand, as well as other essential supplies.

The report says the Ojai Unified, Santa Clara Elementary, and Rio Elementary Districts need to put together emergency kits for their schools.
