The President of Los Angeles City College has been picked as the new chancellor of the Ventura County Community College District.
Jamillah Moore was selected from a field of 35 applicants for the post by district trustees last night. Moore, and the district still have to work out a contract agreement before the deal becomes final.
Moore will take over the post from James Meznek, who is retiring this month.
She’ll face some big challenges. Topping the list is money, with the college district, like public colleges across the state, being hit hard by state funding cuts. She will also be inheriting three campuses which are on probation, because of district Board of Trustees management problems identified by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges. The board has already moved to address issues identified by the commission.
