Westlake Village Actress Known for “Desperate Housewifes,” “West Wing” Loses Battle With Lung Cancer

Posted on Monday, June 4, 2012 12:53am

A Westlake Village actress who played a Wisteria Lane resident in the hit television show “Desperate Housewives” has died from lung cancer, just weeks after her character passed away from the illness in the television series.

Kathryn Joosten died at her Westlake Village home Saturday.

Joosten was a nurse for many years, but in her 40′s decided to pursue acting. She appeared on dozens of shows, including “Dharma & Greg,” “Ally McBeal,” and “Scrubs,” but became well known as the President’s feisty secretary in “The West Wing”. She joined the cast of “Desperate Housewives,” and because she was an advocate for lung cancer awarness, agreed that her medical issue should be used as part of the series plot for her character, the nosy neighbor Mrs. McClusky.

Joosten was 72 years old.
