Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle, Fatally Injured While Leaving Santa Barbara Wedding Reception Identified

Posted on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 2:41pm

Authorities are now identifying a woman killed in the tragic end to a wedding celebration in Santa Barbara. Silvia Rodriguez Diaz was struck, and fatally injured Saturday night, as she was leaving a wedding reception being held on Santa Barbara’s waterfront.

Police say the 53 year old Northern California woman was attempting to cross the 300 block of East Cabrillo Boulevard to get to her car parked across the street, when she was struck by an SUV.

She wasn’t in a crosswalk at the time of the accident. Diaz died at a hospital a short time after she was hit.

Police say the driver had been drinking before the collision, but not enough to be considered under the influence. The 22 year old man wasn’t arrested.

As police were investigating the fatal accident, they say a DUI driver crashed into some barricades set up at the scene. No one was hurt, but that driver was arrested.
