A Ventura County man who walked away from a plane crash in a Southern California neighborhood says he’s now learned to expect the unexpected. Jim Roth of Thousand Oaks was flying a single engine plane from Phoenix to Van Nuys Monday night, but after reporting engine problems, was diverted to Burbank Airport. He didn’t make it, and crashed in a Glendale neighborhood.
The plane was destroyed, but he escaped with minor injuries from the wreckage. Roth says he’s thankful no one on the ground was hurt, and appreciated the fact people from the neighborhood quickly came to his aid.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident, to try to determine exactly what happened.
