Posted on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 10:01am

The latest production by a South Coast theater company features a work by America’s leading African American playwright, and stars a Tony Award winning actress.

“Gem Of The Ocean” is a fictional story which takes a look at the often difficult African American experience in the 20th century. It takes on issues like race, and labor conditions. Even though it’s set more than 100 years ago, some of the problems are still with us today.
