Nutrition Program For Low Income Women, Children In Ventura County Being Cut Due To Decreased Participation

Posted on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 4:53pm

A federally funding healthy eating program for low income women, and children in Ventura County is being impacted by decreased participation. The Women, Infants and Children Program, better known as WIC, will close one of its nine site in Ventura County, with people now using the Camarillo location being redirected to Oxnard.

Eight positions are being affected, but no one is being laid off.

Five posts were already vacant, and three other workers will be retained by taking other positions. The program helps with nutrition for pregnant women, newborns, and children up to the age of five, and has about 25,000 clients in Ventura County.
