Former USC, NFL Football Player Who Was Focus Of Search In Ventura County Found Safe

Posted on Monday, May 14, 2012 3:28pm

A former USC, and NFL football star who disappeared while hiking in Ventura County yesterday is apparently okay.

Erik Affholter was dropped off near the Metrolink Station on the 5000 block of Los Angeles Avenue, in Simi Valley around 10 yesterday morning, to go for a hike. When he failed to return, his girlfriend called Simi Valley Police just before 10 last night.

Authorities started a search, but it was called off early this afternoon when it was learned he was safe, and had talked to family members by telephone. There’s no word on exactly what happened, and investigators say while he left detectives a message at just before 2:30 apologizing for the confusion, they still want to talk to him to confirm everything is okay.

Affholter played for USC, as well as the Green Bay Packers.
