A Ventura County man is facing multiple felony counts, after police say he was threatening children on a busy Oxnard street, and then assaulted an officer responding to the scene.
It happened at about 1:30 Saturday afternoon, on the 2400 block of Saviers Road. Oxnard Police were called to the area by reports of a man yelling, and threatening children.
An Oxnard police officer arriving at the scene says he tried to stop Octavio Salgado, but that the man started fighting with him, and twice tried to pull the gun from his holster.
The 31 year old man was finally taken into custody with the help of backup officers. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered in the incident. A large crowd of people at the Centerpoint Mall witnessed the scuffle.
The officer was treated for minor injuries at an Oxnard hospital, and released.
