UCSB Gets $50 Million Dollar Gift, Largest In University’s History

Posted on Saturday, May 12, 2012 11:15pm

UC Santa Barbara has received the largest gift in the University’s history, a $50 million dollar donation from the chairman of a high tech company, and his wife to further UCSB’s energy efficiency research.

The contribution from Oracle Chairman Jeff Henley, and his wife Judy was formally announced at a Saturday night event at UCSB. The gift is going to UCSB’s Institute For Energy Efficiency, and the College of Engineering.

The institute is a world famous research facility, with five NobeL Laureates on its faculty. Researchers there have been working on projects like improving the efficiency of LED lights, and the next generation of fuel cells, and high capacity storage batteries.

Henley is a UCSB alumnus, and he and his wife had made numerous contributions over the years, but nothing on this scale.
