Ventura Comes Up With Budget Plan Which Bridges Projected Shortfall, While Adding Police Officers

Posted on Monday, April 30, 2012 6:26am

A South Coast city has come up with a budget plan which will allow it to close what was a projected budget shortfall, and still beef up its police department.

The City of Ventura’s proposed new budget calls for using $1.1 million dollars in budget cuts, and $1.6 million dollars in revenue increases, or one time budget savings to bridge the gap.

City officials say the plan still allows them to follow up on a big city council goal of improving public safety, providing funding for four additional police officers, and one more police sergeant..

Over the last three years, the city has cut its general operating budget by $15 million dollars, and eliminated almost 100 positions.
