A man arrested in Santa Barbara County more than a decade ago on rape charges, but who fled after being released on bail is finally back behind bars.
In 1998, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Ramon Gonzales Ceja for rape, burglary, and domestic violence for an incident in Carpinteria. After posting bail, he fled the county.
Ceja was placed on a list of most wanted people in the county, to try to keep his name, and photo in public view.
Last year, detectives started actively pursuing the cold case, and recently discovered information about where he might be staying. They say the 45 year old man apparently learned he had been located, and turned himself in this week.
