New Multi-Million Dollar Taxiway Set To Open At Airport In Ventura County Today

Posted on Friday, April 20, 2012 12:54am

A new taxiway at a South Coast airport which is expected to improve safety, and allow for increased traffic is going to officially open this afternoon.

Camarillo Airport has a new parallel taxiway which is the full length of the airport’s existing taxiway.

The $4.3 million dollar project was 95% funded the federal government.

Up until now, the airport used a single taxiway to move ground traffic moving in opposite directions, which caused additional safety concerns, and extra work for the airport’s tower. The new taxiway will help expedite the movement of larger planes on the ground, which require more wingtip to wingtip clearance in taxiing by other aircraft.

The project took six months to complete, and included work by biologists to relocate some burrowing owls which lived in the project area.
