Nationwide Immigration Sweep Focused On People With Criminal Records Leads To Some South Coast Arrests

Posted on Monday, April 2, 2012 6:07pm

A nationwide sweep focusing on people with criminal records in the United states illegally has led to 19 arrests on the South Coast.

10 people in Ventura County, and nine in Santa Barbara County were arrested during the U.S. Immigration And Customs Enforcement Agency sweep in March.

3100 people were taken into custody nationwide during the six day long operation, which is being called the largest ever of its type.

Federal officials say those arrested included people with serious criminal records like murder, and some of them were people who had returned to the U.S. after already being deported.

Those arrested in what was called “Operation Cross Check” included people in the U.S. illegally from 116 different countries.
