Santa Barbara Resident Shoots Man Police Say Was Trying To Break Into Home

Posted on Sunday, April 1, 2012 10:13am

A man police say was prowling around one Santa Barbara home, and tried to break into another is recovering after being shot by one of the homeowners.

Police say it happened just after four yesterday morning, when a woman heard, and then saw a man outside of her home on the 900 block of West Pedregosa Street, and warned him to leave. The man left, and went into a neighbor’s yard.

He knocked on the front door, asking for money, but after he was told to leave, he went to the house’s back patio.
The 33-year old Santa Barbara man then tried to kick in some French doors, and threw objects at the windows, breaking some of them.

Fearing for his family’s safety, one of the homeowners shot the intruder in the leg with a rifle. The wound wasn’t life threatening. The man, who isn’t being identified yet, is facing burglary, prowling, and vandalism charges.
