Groups Appeal Decision To Allow Seismic Testing For Oil, Gas In Remote Area Of Santa Barbara County

A coalition of environmental groups is appealing Santa Barbara County’s decision to allow seismic surveying for oil, and gas supplies in the northeastern part of the county.

E and B Natural Resources is planning to bury, and detonate dynamite on 23 square miles of agland in the Cuyama Valley.

The geophysical data would then charted, to help assess potential underground resources in the region.

The Environmental Defense Center appealed the county decision on behalf of itself, the Carpinteria Valley Association, and the Santa Barbara County Action Network.

The appeal charges that the county approved the project without proper environmental analysis, as required by state law.

The EDC says the Cuyama Valley is home to a number of rare, and endangered species, from plants to lizards and a species of fox,
