Ventura County Man Could Spend The Rest Of His Life Behind Bars For 2003 Killing Of Teenager

Posted on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 12:02am

A Ventura County man could spend the rest of his life behind bars, without the possibility of parole after being convicted of shooting to death a teenager at a party.

Joe Fidel Flores went to a large party near Santa Paula on October 11th, 2003, with some fellow gang members.

A fight broke out, and the now 31 year old man pulled out a gun, and shot to death 15 year old Samuel Reeves.

The popular Santa Paula High School student had no gang affiliations and just happened to be at the party with his brother, and friends.

Flores was convicted of first degree murder, with special circumstances which include the use of a gun, and that the killing was gang related.

Two other men originally arrested for the killing were found not guilty in 2005.

As the investigation continued, DNA evidence from blood found on the victim led Ventura County Sheriff’s detectives to Flores.

He’ll be sentenced May 18th.
