Search Ended For Man Believed To Be Fourth Victim Of Weekend Boating Accident In Channel Islands

Posted on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 4:04pm

The search has been called off for a fourth man believed to have drowned in a weekend boating accident in the Channel Islands.

The men had gone out to Santa Cruz Island on a day trip Saturday, but their boat capsized north of the island.

After the men failed to return home Saturday, a search was launched Sunday, and the bodies of three Ventura County men were recovered.

An all day effort to find the fourth man Monday was unsuccessful, and the search has been discontinued.

The missing Camarillo man is being identified as 37-year-old Jose Juan Becerra Perez.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, and U.S. Coast Guard are investigating what they believe was an accident.

Autopsy results are still pending on the bodies which have been recovered, but preliminary results indicate that they were the victims of drowning and/or hypothermia.
