Five People Arrested On Charges Of Being Involved With Ring Smuggling Drugs Into Santa Barbara County Jail

Posted on Monday, March 12, 2012 4:46pm

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department says it’s broken up a ring which was using mail to smuggle illegal drugs into the county jail.

Detectives first became aware of the operation when someone noticed mail laced with methamphetamine being sent to an inmate at the main jail.  Investigators determined the inmate’s girlfriend was involved.  After getting a search warrant, they raided a home on the 4500 block of Auhay Drive in Santa Barbara, seizing heroin, methamphetamine, plus drug paraphernalia, and leading to the five arrests on a variety of charges from smuggling drugs into a jail, to drug dealing.
