Authorities Trying To Pinpoint Cause Of Deadly Weekend Tanker Crash Which Closed 101 Freeway in Santa Barbara County

Posted on Sunday, March 11, 2012 5:27pm

Authorities are trying to figure out what caused a tanker truck driver to lose control of his vehicle early Saturday morning on the 101 Freeway in Santa Barbara County, causing a crash which killed him, and closed the freeway for hours.

It happened at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday, on the northbound 101 between Highway 154, and 246.  The tanker was carrying about 8500 gallons of gasoline, which burned for hours.

The identity of the Santa Maria man driving the truck hasn’t been released yet.  Southbound traffic was disrupted for about five hours, while northbound traffic had to be rerouted for about 10 hours.
