Ventura County Man Sentenced To Jail For Dropping Anchor On Moving Cruise Ship

Posted on Thursday, March 8, 2012 12:45am

A Ventura County man received a four month jail sentence, and three years probation after pleading guilty to dropping the anchor on a moving cruise ship while it was sailing from Mexico to Florida.

Prosecutors say Rick Ehlert could have seriously damaged the ship in what was called a drunken prank involving a Holland America cruise ship in November of 2010.

The ship was undamaged, but it was stopped for thee hours by the incident.

The Thousand Oaks man told authorities at the time that he owned a boat, and knew how anchor systems worked, so he donned gloves, and went into an unauthorized area where he lowered the anchor.
