A special enforcment effort by the CHP in response to some fatal traffic accidents in Ventura County led to nearly 500 citations in February.

The CHP targeted drivers in the western part of the county for issues including speeding, following too closely, and unsafe lane changes, as well as for traditional problems like DUI, and distracted drivers using cell phones improperly, and texting.

The CHP conducted the extra enforcement effort on four specific days of the month.  Officials say this is part of an ongoing effort to reduce the number of serious, and fatal traffic accidents in the county.
