City Of Thousand Oaks To Consider Submitting Proposal To Manage Simi Valley Library

Posted on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 11:28am

Could one Ventura County city soon begin managing another city’s library, as well?

The Thousand Oaks City Council is set to review a proposal for the city’s library to submit a plan to handle management of Simi Valley’s library, as well.

In a staff report, Thousand Oaks library officials say there may be economies in scale through a management agreement.

Simi Valley pulled out of the Ventura County Library System last year, citing concerns about costs.  The city is exploring options from running the library itself, to contracting with another public agency, or a private contractor to run the library.

A union filed suit against the City of Simi Valley to try to prohibit it from using a private contractor, saying the city council didn’t follow proper procedures.  A judge blocked the city from hiring a private contractor at least until a hearing on the matter is complete.

The Thousand Oaks City Council is set to discuss the management proposal when it meets tonight (2/21).
