Posted on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 11:42am

A man considered to be a strong contender for a new State Senate seat in Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties has decided not to run for it.

Republican Assemblyman Cameron Smyth of Santa Clarita had been expected by many to seek the 27th District State Senate Seat.

It includes parts of western Los Angeles County, as well as eastern Ventura County, including Simi Valley, Moorpark, and Thousand Oaks.

Smyth can’t run for reelection for his assembly seat due to term limits, and says he’s returning to private life

Democratic Senator Fran Pavley is in the race for the new 27th District seat.
