Simi Valley City Council To Consider Ordinance Intended To Discourage Adult Film Production

Posted on Monday, February 13, 2012 11:07am

A city in Ventura County is expected to give preliminary approval tonight to an ordinance aimed at discouraging adult film production in the city.

The Simi Valley City Council is set to consider an ordinance similar to that of the city of Los Angeles, which requires the use of condoms as a safety measure during adult film production.

Adult filmmakers are upset over the Los Angeles ordinance, saying it will affect their ability to make movies, and call it unnecessary because the industry requires performers to undergo regular testing for sexually transmitted diseases.

Simi Valley leaders wanted to put an ordinance into place because they fear the filmmakers will look for other nearby community to do filming which are less restrictive.

The proposed Simi Valley ordinance is up for initial consideration tonight, and if okayed, would be up for final consideration in two weeks.  The council has already expressed support for the concept.
