Santa Barbara County Man Gets Six Year Prison Sentence In Murder For Hire Plot

Posted on Monday, January 30, 2012 4:44pm

A Santa Barbara County man has received a six year federal prison sentence for trying to solicit hitmen to torture and kill a former business partner, the man’s wife, and another business associate over what he claimed was a failed business deal.

Federal prosecutors say Eugene Darryl Temkin of Goleta was angry over what he claimed were $15 million dollars in losses from a plan to open a casino in Africa.  In 2009, a source told law enforcement officers that Temkin was trying to hire someone to kill his former business partner.

Undercover officers posing as hitmen met with Temkin, and they say the businessman want them to rape, torture, and then kill the three people.  The also learned he had been harassing the victims for close to a decade.  Prosecutors say he was finally arrested after he made a down payment for the killings.

Last summer, the now 51 year old man was convicted of soliciting a crime of violence, attempting to interfere with interstate commerce through violence, and using interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder for hire.
