Investigation Underway Into Fattal Shooting Of Man Said To Be Wielding Machete By Ventura County Sheriff’s Detectives

Posted on Sunday, January 29, 2012 2:59pm

Investigators are looking into exactly what led to the fatal shooting by Ventura County Sheriff’s detectives of a man they say was wielding a machete.

Deputies received a report around 2 p.m. Friday of an armed man creating a disturbance at a home on the 10000 block of Citrus Drive, in Moorpark.  Two detectives who were among the first to reach the scene say they were confronted with a man armed with the machete, who ignored calls to surrender, and advanced toward them.  They fired, fatally wounding Eric Strosser of Moorpark.  The 47 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured.  As is standard procedure in incidents of this type. the Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation, and the District Attorney’s Office is doing its own independent investigation.
