Ventura County’s Fire Chief To Retire

Posted on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 2:41pm

Ventura County’s Fire Chief has announced his retirement, after more than three decades as a firefighter.

Bob Roper will step down on March 30th, after serving as the county’s Fire Chief for nearly half of his career.

Roper announced last year he’ll be seeking Ventura County’s First District Supervisorial seat this year.

That seat will be wide open, because current Supervisor Steve Bennett isn’t seeking re-election, because he’s running for Congress.

Ventura City Councilwoman Christy Weir is also seeking the post.

Roper guided the department through several major brushfires, as well as helped it cope with the impacts of state budget cuts, keeping it financially sound.
