Local School District To Ask Voters To Extend, Expand Parcel Tax For School Programs

Posted on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 12:21pm

The Santa Barbara School District is going to go to the ballot box, to try to seek more financial support from voters.

The district’s School Board has approved a proposal seeking to renew, and expand some existing parcel taxes set to expire next year.

If voters approve the proposal in June, property owners within the boundaries of the elementary, and high school districts would pay $108 dollars per parcel a year.

The money would pay for enhanced math, science, music, arts and other programs which district officials say they could no longer otherwise afford.

The plan would more than double the $50 dollar parcel people with property in the boundaries of both districts face.

The plan does include exemptions for seniors whose homes are in the boundaries.
