Posted on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 3:33pm

Two ex-convicts from Oxnard were arrested after a sawed off shotgun was found in their vehicle during a routine traffic stop.

It happened at around 1:15 this morning, on the southbound 101 Freeway at Johnson Drive.

As a Ventura police car pulled over the vehicle, one man fled on foot, and three others remained in the car.

The man who tried to escape was found hiding in a nearby shed, and was arrested after a brief struggle with officers.

Sergio Contreas was booked for being an ex-felon in possession of a sawed off shotgun, resisting arrest, and being a gang member involved in criminal activity.

Police also arrested Gilbert Lemos, who was in the car, for being a felon in possession of a shotgun, and being a gang member involved in criminal activity.

Two women in the car were released at the scene.
