New Details Released About Arrest Of Men For Drug Smuggling In Ventura County

Posted on Thursday, January 5, 2012 3:44pm

Authorities are now saying 10 people arrested on the Ventura County coastline, near Deer Creek Road early yesterday morning  (1/4) were all involved in drug smuggling.

The boat was spotted offshore at around 3 a.m. by National Guard officers involved in a task force patrolling the coast.  They notified Customs and Border Patrol officers, who intercepted nine men, and found about 2500 pounds of marijuana.  The tenth man was arrested as he was trying to hide a short distance down the coast.

Investigators say those arrested included some men who were in the boat, and some who were meeting them to pick up the marijuana cargo.

On Monday, a similar style of drug smuggling boat was discovered abandoned in Santa Barbara County, near Refugio Beach.
