Search For Missing Santa Barbara Man In Mojave Desert Ends Following Discovery Of Two Bodies

Posted on Thursday, December 22, 2011 4:57pm

It appears there may have been a tragic end for two Santa Barbara men who disappeared while on an off-road vehicle outing in the Mojave Desert over the weekend.

Daniel Preddy Carbonaro, and Chris Wayne Rice were last seen early Sunday morning, leaving a motel in the tiny historic town of Randsburg, which is about 15 miles from the city of Ridgecrest.

A massive search involving 180 people was launched. This afternoon (12/22) searchers made a grim discovery at the base of a cliff just a mile from Randsburg, finding the bodies of two men, and smashed up off road vehicle.

Deputy Victor Kessey, with the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, says the identities of the bodies haven’t been officially released yet, but says that the search for the missing men has ended

The men were believed to have left a Randsburg motel room before sunrise Sunday, en route to a dry lake bed to ride an off road vehicle.
