Posted on Monday, December 5, 2011 12:51am

One of the stars of the critically acclaimed movie “The Help’ is going to be one of the main honorees at the 2012 Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Actress Viola Davis drew acclaim for her role as a housemaid in “The Help”, and some critics think it could earn her an Academy Award nomination.

The movie was set in the 1960’s South, during a time when segregation was still rampant.

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival announced Davis will receive the 2012 festival’s “Outstanding Performer Of The Year” award.

Davis received Golden Globe, and Academy Award nominations for her role in the 2008 movie “Doubt”.

Past winners of the festival’s “Performer of the Year” award include James Franco, Colin Firth, Heath Ledger, Helen Mirren, and Kate Winslet.

Davis will be honored in a January 27th event at the Arlington Theater.

The 2012 Film Festival runs Janaury 26th through February 5th.
