Santa Barbara County Firefighters Say High Brushfire Danger Season Ending

Santa Barbara County firefighters say in the wake of recent rainfall, the high brushfire danger season is ending this week.

As of 8 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, the County Fire Department will move from high fire season preparedness, to low season preparedness.  It means changes in staffing levels for the department.  During the peak season, the agency beefs up some stations with extra firefighters, and equipment to try to get a quick jump on outbreaks.

The transition to a lower risk time of year also means the people with valid permits will be able to conduct controlled burns in areas within the department’s jurisdiction.

Firefighters say if conditions change, and we hit a dry or hot streak, staffing levels can be increased to insure the county is ready for brushfires.
