Three Arrested On Charges Of Smuggling Drugs Into The Santa Barbara County Jail

Posted on Thursday, November 17, 2011 3:35pm

Investigators say they’ve arrested three people for moving illegal drugs into probably the last place you want to take them…the Santa Barbara County Jail.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department says it discovered that a man in jail on weapons violations had heroin, marijuana, and prescription pills in his possession behind bars in the main county jail facility.

33-year-old Marcos Ramos of Santa Barbara was in jail awaiting transfer to a state prison to serve an eight year sentence, but is also now facing drug smuggling charges.

Investigators used information from the bust to get a search warrant for a home on the 500 block of Dentro Drive, outside of Santa Barbara.

That led to the seizure of more drugs, and the arrest of Samantha Anne Aftergut on charges she was smuggling drugs into the jail.

Detectives say the woman smuggled drugs into the jail and gave them to another inmate…Paul Charles Bautista of Santa Maria…who then passed them on to Ramos.

Although already behind bars, the 29-year-old Santa Maria man was also arrested on drug smuggling charges.
