Are you ready for some football?
The City of Oxnard apparently is, with the city looking at a long term contract to host Dallas Cowboys summer training camps for the next three years, with an option for another three.
The Cowboys trained in Oxnard a half dozen summers over the last decade. The Cowboys passed on using the Oxnard facilities this past summer, but the New Orleans Saints came to the city for a week, holding their first ever camp in the county.
The City Council is set to look at the deal tonight, but there are some details which still have to be resolved, including the city’s ability to get the use of land that’s been used for parking next to the practice fields at the Residence Inn Oxnard River Ridge. The land was owned by developers, but is current in default.
While Los Angeles has been struggling to land a pro football team, Oxnard has actually had three which have trained in the city, with the Oakland Raiders, the Cowboys, and the Saints. However, the Raiders used a temporary training facility in a different spot in the 1980′s, off the 101 Freeway at Vineyard Avenue.
