The City of Simi Valley is still undecided on whether it will follow Camarillo in pulling out of the Ventura County Library System.
Simi Valley is considering running its library on its own with a private contractor, or withdrawing and contracting with the county, as possibilities to save money. Camarillo hired a private company to run its library, as did Moorpark.
A new state law which takes effect January first would make it more difficult for libraries to follow the path of Camarillo, so Simi Valley is looking at the issue now. The City’s staff has recommending it withdraw.
But, some residents are speaking out against the idea, with concerns about the quality of services which would be provided by a contractor.
The City Council is expected to continue to look at the issue at its November 21st meeting.
