New Face Apparently Joining Santa Barbara City Council In Close Race

Posted on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 1:33am

Two Santa Barbara City Council members apparently kept their seats in a closely contested race in Tuesday’s municipal election, but a third appears to be out, according to the unofficial results.

Council members Dale Francisco and Randy Rowse were among the top vote getters in the packed 10 person field, but incumbent Michael Self apparently fell to challenger Cathy Murillo, with Self finishing fifth overall.  The top three vote-getters all had just over 15% of the vote each.  The gap between third, and four place is more than 250 votes, so the chances of the slate of winners changing appears to be slight.  41% of the city’s nearly 45,000 registered voters took part in the vote by mail election.
