Fundraiser Set To Help With Efforts To Try To Save Popular State Beach In Ventura County From Closure

Posted on Friday, October 28, 2011 11:15am

An oyster, clam, and champagne event in Ventura today (10/28) is the latest effort to try to help save a popular state beach threatened with closure.

The fundraiser at the Jolly Oyster restaurant, at San Buenaventura State Beach, is part of efforts to save McGrath State Beach from shutdown.

State parks officials had planned to close the park because they didn’t have the roughly $500,000 of dollars to repair a deteriorating sewer line.  The City of Oxnard, and Ventura County have pledged $50,000 each to the project, and the state may contribute $100,000, but the key is a still pending request for a $250,000 federal grant.

The fundraiser to help with the remaining $50,000 needed is scheduled to run from 3 to 6 p.m.
