A Ventura County high school has a brand new, $100,000 fitness center after winning a statewide challenge.

Nationally known fitness guru Jake “Body By Jake” Steinfeld was on hand to help open the new center at Oxnard’s Hueneme High School today, as the school was rewarded for its participation in a statewide fitness program.

The school’s students took part in physical activity for 30 to 60 minutes a day, at least three days a week for four weeks.

The campaign is sponsored by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sport.  There’s no tax money involved, and it’s funded through donations and grants from groups like the Anthem Blue Cross Foundation.  Last year, Franklin Elementary School in Santa Barbara won a fitness center through the same seven year old program.
