Veteran Local Legislator Announces Plans To Seek State Senate Seat

Posted on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 2:54pm

A veteran legislator on the South Coast has announced her intention to run for what will be a newly configured 19th District State Senate seat.

Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson served three terms as the region’s 35th District Assemblywoman, before barely losing a close race in 2008 for the 19th District Senate seat to Republican Tony Strickland.

But, in the wake of redistricting, the district, which includes parts of Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties is expected to be much more Democrat-friendly.

Jackson is the first candidate to officially announce her intention to seek the Democratic nomination for the seat in next year’s election.
