Longtime Arts Leader Who Headed Music Academy Of The West, In Montecito Dies

A man who was the first president of the Music Academy Of The West in Montecito has died.

Dr. Robert William Holmes was the first person to hold the title of President of the Music Academy, and was there from  from 1988, to 1993.  He helped increase the Academy’s endowment from $2, to $9 million dollars during his time in Montecito.  During his four decade long career he was also involved in music education programs at USC, and Penn State.

Holmes eventually moved to Oregon, where he died from heart disease.  He was 82 years old.  The Music Academy is planning to honor his legacy at its 65th annual Summer Festival, next June.
