The Ventura County based Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation is sponsoring a centennial event to celebrate the late president’s birth which will be a part of nearly five thousand football games, from coast to coast this weekend.

Commemorative coins bearing Ronald Reagan’s image will be used for the coin toss before games at the high school, college, and NFL levels September 23-26th.

Football legends Lou Holtz, Doug Flutie, and Lynn Swann are co-chairing the coin toss effort.

President Reagan played high school football, started his career in broadcasting doing college football games, and played a number of iconic football roles in movies.

The movie “Knute Rockne: All American” is where he first used the line “Win One For The Gipper”, and that led to his nickname of “The Gipper”.
