Lives Of Those Who Died At California’s Mental Institutions, Including Camarillo State Hospital, Commemorated

People who died at mental institutions around the state, including one in Ventura County were remembered at a special memorial service Monday night (9/19).

Organizers of the California Memorial Project’s Rememberance Day say of the thousands of people who died in state institutions over the decades, many were buried in unmarked graves.

The ninth annual series of memorial events was held at ten locations around the state, including Cal State Channel Islands, which is located on the former site of Camarillo State Hospital.

Ivy Lawn Memorial Park donated a plaque which has been installed at the university’s El Dorado Park.
