Poll: Romney Leads Republican Field In California

Posted on Thursday, September 15, 2011 8:38am

One Republican Presidential candidate has a solid lead in California according to a statewide Field Poll.

California Republican voters prefer former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney – who has a home in the San Diego area – for President. The survey finds 28 percent of registered Republicans choose Romney.

Texas Governor Rick Perry, who’s done well in some national polls, is preferred by 20 percent of California’s GOP voters. All other candidates get single digit support. Coming in third with eight percent is former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who’s not declared her intention to run.

Texas Congressman Ron Paul and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich get seven percent, and Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann gets six. 14 percent of GOP voters are still undecided.

When either Romney or Perry is paired against President Barak Obama, the President leads by double-digit margins.
