The California Transportation Commission has allocated $131 million dollars for the expansion of an often congested section of Highway 101 between Ventura, and Santa Barbara Counties, in the La Conchita area.
The project calls for expanding each side of the freeway from two, to three lanes from the Mobil Pier to the Ventura-Santa Barbara County line. The project includes a bike path on the the ocean side of the 101. Work is expected to start next year, and could take about four years.
Money for the project comes from a state bond passed by voters five years ago.
