UC Santa Barbara will be the scene of a memorial service Tuesday (8/9) for Black Studies scholar, and UCSB Professor Clyde Woods.

Woods was Acting Director of the Center for Black Studies Research at UCSB. He was involved in rebuilding efforts for New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and studied race and politics in Southern California.  Woods was the author of a number of books related to his Black Studies research.

The 54 year old professor died on July 6th.  Plans call for a New Orleans style procession from Storke Plaza to Corwin Pavilion at 11:15, to be followed by a memorial.
