A former Santa Barbara County employee whom authorities say embezzled thousands for the county has been arrested after more than three years on the run.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Detectives say Kathleen Abbe Gentile was arrested in San Diego over the weekend, as she tried to board a flight to Texas. Investigators say in 2007, Gentile stole more than $14,000 as she worked as a secretary for the County’s Planning and Development Department. They say she used a county gas card without authorization, and also wrote county checks to herself for cash.
In March of 2008, she was ordered to show up in court to face charges, but she fled, and a felony warrant was issued for her arrest.
