Carpinteria Finalizes Budget Which Includes Cuts To Law Enforcement, Other Services

Posted on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 10:57am

The City of Carpinteria has approved an 11 million dollar budget, which is down almost 13 percent from the year before, and includes cuts to law enforcement, maintenance, and hours of operation at some municipal facilities.

The 2011-2012 fiscal year budget cuts three positions from the city’s contract with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s department, including a patrol deputy, and a detective.  It also calls for reducing park and street maintenance, and hours of operation at City Hall, and the community pool.

Carpinteria officials say they were hit by the impacts of state funding cuts, as well as a more than 300-thousand dollar drop in sales tax revenue as a result of the recession.
